District Governor Doug Smith enjoyed visiting with our club last week. He particularly liked our way of spending time greeting each other at the beginning.  DG Doug has been traveling throughout District 5870 getting to know all of the club and their various projects.  As part of his presentation, he reminded us that theme of RI’s President Stephanie is the Magic of Rotary.  He described how Rotarians help people throughout the world through the Rotary Foundation and reminded us that part of fund donated to the Rotary Foundation annual fund come back to the District and can be used as DAP grants.  Doug discussed Polio Plus and the state of polio eradication – only cases in Pakistan and Afghanistan.  He emphasized that membership growth and retention is very important. District 5870 has dropped below 2,000 Rotarians for the first time, so we need to increase membership.  More members creates more hands, ideas and perspectives.  We should invite our friend to Rotary events such us our upcoming Paws for Polio event on October 5th.  We should share our success stories and share our events. Engagement of new members keeps them in Rotary. DG Doug also discussed President Stephanie’s focus on positive peace and presented Club President Karen Bogisch an olive branch pin and Rotary theme scarf.  He reminded us to do the best can do and maximum we can do!
