Our speaker on March 2 was Stacy Bruce, President and Executive Director of Variety, the Children's Charity of Texas, which runs Peaceable Kingdom. RYLA’s new home is now going to be located at Peaceable Kingdom, which is a 122-acre facility. Rotary has been involved with Peaceable Kingdom for many years including helping build a playground. Peaceable Kingdom is more than park or campsite. It served 7000 kids a year prior to COVID as is working to get back up to the number. Their focus is serving kids with special needs. Stacy told us the background history of Variety and Peaceable Kingdom, which has tremendous support from Cinemark Theatres. She also showed videos of testimonials of kids who have attended the camps. Variety and Peaceable Kingdom are also trying to help educate general public about special needs. When children attend the camps, they are attending with children with similar issues, creating a support system. Stacy told us about all Peaceable Kingdom and Variety’s programs, which go beyond the summer camps, and include providing financial to families with children with special needs.
