Frank Ivy told us about the car parade for Jim Henry’s year as Rotary District Governor. Sally Hood gave us an update on the Board meeting on Tuesday evening. The Board discussed the Rise Against Hunger project – three other clubs interested, including the E-club. A tentative date is set for early October. We were also updated about the Women’s Storybrook Project. Club members had contributed to purchasing books, with a total of $300 being donated. The Board went through club’s financials and approved them for the new Rotary year.
Frank Ivy told us about his experience with exchange student Pedro Climent from Vigo, Spain with a PowerPoint presentation showing pictures of their experiences together, including many first experiences for Pedro. Pedro was enrolled at Westwood HS, which is not near the Ivys’ home, so Beth Siever and Michael Holmes helped coordinate transportation to and from school. Pedro made all As and Bs at Westwood HS. Some of the highlights of his stay: visiting UT and going to four UT football games, visiting the Texas Capitol; riverboat tour to see the bats on Lady Bird Lake with other Rotary clubs; carving pumpkins for Halloween; participating in Rise Against Hunger Project; visiting Missions in San Antonio area; and participated in US holidays. Pedro had a 2nd host family for January, February and part of March before he had to go home because of the pandemic. Frank said it was a wonderful experience!
