July 14th - President Tink
On July 14th, President Tink gave us a classification talk. He is an administrative law judge/hearings officer at the Texas Workforce Commission. He hears cases in the unemployment insurance area. If a person is fired or quit, he/she doesn’t get unemployment. At a hearing, the employer wants to protect tax rate and the employee wants to get benefits by showing they were laid off and not fired for cause. In the past, Tink traveled for hearings and it was challenging to keep peace between two sides. Now he does online hearings by phone and can work from home. Tink uses the Rotary “four way” test during his hearings. He helps develop the record and find the truth using the rules he has to help with decision making. He looks at whether the decision is fair to all concerned - it’s important so that everyone has faith that an impartial decision was made. He also works on building goodwill towards agency. Building better friendships is not applicable to Tink’s position, but what he does is beneficial to all concerned - it keeps economy going.
