Our speaker on January 17th was Jennifer, the Volunteer Coordinator for Meals on Wheels Central Texas. She gave us some statistics about our club’s involvement with Meals on Wheels. Members of our club have been volunteering for 14 years and have delivered 851 meals over 1276.5 volunteer hours. Lee Chesney has volunteered for 10 years, Denis Cowhig for 2 years, George Linal for 14 years, and Beth Siever for 1 year. The Deans started it all 14 years ago. Besides delivering meals, Meals on Wheels provides in-home care, including helping with grocery shopping, pharmacy runs, and meal prep among other things. The organization also provides HOPE - healthy options for food for the elderly, PALS, assisting with clients’ pets, and has an Alzheimer’s respite program. For those who would like to volunteer, there is an orientation meeting every Thursday at 12:15. Volunteers only need to be available one hour a week and deliver 5-7 meals during that hour. Think about volunteering for this wonderful organization.
