Tink and Rich Hill gave a quick presentation on Liberia. Liberia is the oldest independent state in West Africa, became independent in 1847. It was founded by USA with former slaves being repatriated back to Africa as colonists. In 1820, the first freed slaves were sent to West Africa. Between 1822-1892, 16,000 American blacks relocated to what became Liberia. The political structure of the country is modeled after the US. The capital is Monrovia and is named after President James Monroe. American culture is everywhere on the streets. The people speak American English. The school curriculum is done the American way. Architecture as American influences.
