Charlie Malouff spoke to us about Texas CURE, which helps people who are incarcerated. Charlie told us about his own personal experience with the criminal justice system in Texas. While he was incarcerated, he started helping other prisoners and also became involved in a lawsuit regarding prison conditions. After he was released, he continued to be an advocate for prisoners. Charlie told us the background of CURE and TX-CURE, and how he works to advocate for prisoners at the Texas legislature. Texas CURE has a number of different programs, including Doctors without Walls, which provides medical care, and youth programs that provide services for children of prisoners in Texas. When he visited our club previously, Brigid Lester talked to him about CASA children, and they have now expanded their services to help those children as well as children of people on probation or parole. If a child has been touched by the criminal justice system, they try to help them. They are also working with Wayland Baptist University in San Antonio to provide services to these children.
