During the 2024-25 Rotary Year, NxNE Austin Rotarians contributed funds a Global Grant project sponsored by the Rotary Club of Northwest Austin. Kent Miller from the NW Austin club sent us an update on the project's launch. That project - "Wash and water Wells to Gain Health" launched on April 30, 2026, and includes a total budget of $113,920. The project will take place in the Mityana District of Uganda, which is 77 kilometers west of Kampala, Uganda. The project has three objectives:
Infrastructure: Expand clean water access through the delivery of 14 high-yield community water points - two new boreholes, 1 borehole rehabilitation, 9 large spring wells, 1 protected spring well, and one gravity flow scheme.
Hygiene Behavior Change: Promote improved sanitation and safe water handling to reduce the incidence of waterborne diseases such as typhoid and cholera
Governance: Strengthen local sustainability by institutionalizing community-led operation and maintenance structures
The project is intended to benefit 2,681 households and approximately 12,091 people.
