Adrienne Clark, Public Health Educator with the Austin Animal Center, with a charming personality and great enthusiasm, delivered an information-packed presentation about the services of the Center, the populations of wildlife that live with us in Austin, and how we can live peacefully and responsibly with them. The common species we see in Austin are coyote, deer, opossum, raccoon, squirrels, bats, and rarely skunks and fox. The purpose of the Austin Animal Center is not to rid the community of these animals or even to relocate them, but to teach the public how to live with them. Of particular interest were the many myths about interacting with wildlife that she explained away by teaching us the usual habits of each species. Three different brochures were made available and extra copies will be available at our September 19 meeting.
