On October 23rd, we learned about ShelterBox through a video presentation. ShelterBox provides emergency shelters for people displaced by natural disaster or wars. Since 2000, ShelterBox has helped to shelter more than 1.5 million people in more than 100 countries. They partner with Rotarians around the world to provide these shelters. Per the video, sometimes ShelterBox is the only aid organization allowed into a country to help with a natural disaster, and that is due to their connection with Rotary. ShelterBox has been there for hurricanes and tornadoes in the USA and tsunamis and earthquakes around the world. The video presenters spoke about responding to the devasting earthquake in Algeria in 2023 where ShelterBox provided shelter for the mountain villagers whose homes were destroyed by the earthquakes.
