Banzai Japan! During the Viet Nam war, Tink and his four comrades took leave together at various ports in the Pacific. He has already told us about a stop in the Philippines. Now they were going to Japan. They were scheduled to have 8 days in port, giving them time to savor some freedom from the war. First, the five visited some local bars, where some of them decided they all seemed the same. The next day, Tink and two of his comrades decided to see the sites in Japan and took a bullet train to Toyko to see a show. They also checked out some Japanese cuisine. When they returned to port, they saw some altercations that arose because of how the Black sailors and Marines and other minorities were being treated in some of the bars. When Tink and his friends saw a lone White sailor being attacked by a group of Black sailors, Tink intervened and broke up the fight. He was a human relations officer in the Marines and ended up having to give a report about what he knew about the altercations. The next day, the Admiral in charge of the fleet decided to leave port early. Again, Tink told us a very interesting story with lots of details about his adventures while in the Marines.
