Dr. Chad Pevateaux, the co-director of iACT's refugee program spoke to us on November 16th. iACT exists top build healthy relationships between faith communities and involve people of all faiths in the central Texas community; they encourage interfaith dialogue. With respect to their refugee program, English language instruction is the bulk of their programs for refugees; it is the only one dedicated to serve refugees. They also help with health and wellness and cultural adjustments and connect them with health care providers. iACT’s refugee program is starting a 16-24 ages mentor program, which will need 80 adult volunteers. Volunteers will need to be patient and speak English well so they can help their mentees improve their English skills; staff will connect mentors with mentees. iACT is currently helping refugees from Afghanistan, Cuba, and Ukraine among other countries.
