
Carrie spoke to us about "How to get out of the Alligator Pit! To do so, you need to change from fixed mindset to growth mindset and change your core thought in order to change your emotions and actions. Energizing thought and passion leads to energizing action! Figure out your values, past strengths (something about self), and goals and go from there. To stay out of the "alligator pit," work on interacting to create a win-win situation; open-up the conversation, ask open-ended questions and listen intuitively. Carrie had the members pair up and discuss some of these concepts. Carrie sent us 12 tips to escape the Alligator Pit!
2. Focus on strengths. Ask yourself, “How can I apply elements from a past experience I aced to this one?” Write an achievement list to visit when a confidence booster is needed.
3. Practice Intuitive Listening. Ask yourself, “In addition to the words, how does the speaker’s tone of voice, energy level, feelings, etc., help me connect and understand that person.”
4. Consciously choose to think differently. Ask yourself, “How can I make this a situation where everyone wins no matter what.”
5. Look to others for inspiration. Ask yourself, “If my friend/mentor/other was in this position, what would he or she do?”
6. Create a vision of the perfect outcome. Ask yourself, “What would this look and feel like if it came out just the way I wanted?”
7. Clarify your personal purpose. Ask yourself, “What do I truly want out of my life? How am I unique? What do I truly love to do? How can I do more of it?”
8. Align your life and work. Ask yourself, “How can I align my personal purpose with my business purpose.”
9. Get it in writing. Ask yourself, “How can I raise my levels of energy by capturing my thoughts and progress on a regular basis.” Consider starting a journal or other recording system to help you move forward quicker.
10. Practice gratitude. Ask yourself, “What three things am I grateful for today?” Write them down in your journal or other recording system and write “Thank you!” after each one.
11. Set clear, concise goals. Ask yourself, “What are the specific smaller steps that lead to the larger goal? How will I FEEL when I reach that goal?
12. Set up processes. Ask yourself, “What system can I set up for myself that will keep me moving forward on my goals and aspirations?”
13. BONUS: Reach out to others: This may be the most important. Connect with a coach, group, and/or other partner to hold you accountable and cheerlead on your progress!
