Trail-riding Cowboys, steely-eyed Lawmen, long-suffering Homesteaders, ruthless Outlaws, shady Gamblers, and ubiquitous Indians are all a part of the romance that we associate with the American Western Frontier in the late 1800’s. However, the Old West was much more “colorful” than most of us know. Was the fictional Lone Ranger based on a real lawman? Did slaves all run “north” to escape?
