March 28th Speaker - Mick Normington

Our speaker for March 28th was Mick Normington from the Texas Workforce Commission, who updated us on the Austin metro-area labor market. He told us how Americans change jobs/industries more than in any other country. The main areas where employers are seeking jobs in this area are health care, computer technology, and staffing. The top ten specialized skills stated in 2015 Texas job postings are sales, accounting, repair, patient care, scheduling, inspection, mathematics, collaboration, cleaning, and data entry. Mick also told us at times there is a mismatch between what employers say they want, what skills potential employees have, and what skills schools are teaching. All three need to be flexible so that employers and employees can find what they need.
