Sarah Miller is the State Director - Texas for Isaiah 1:17 House. Isaiah 1:17 House provides physical and emotional support in a safe and loving home for children awaiting foster care placement and has homes in a number of states including Texas. It was started by a couple in Tennessee who became foster parents and discovered the need for temporarily assisting children who have been removed from their homes. Their mission is to provide care and support in the in between time so the children are not stuck in a CPS office. CPS workers are always present during this transition period.
Their goals are to (1) help reduce trauma of removal, (2) lighten the load of CPS workers, including providing office space in their homes to complete paperwork while child is cared for, and (3) ease transition to future placement by helping provide clothes and food etc. Sarah, who has been as foster parent in the past, showed us pictures of one of their houses with the office and the giving room where they keep all of supplies for helping with the transition; these are donated by the local communities and are new. Every Isaiah 1:17 home is started and sustained by the local community. Currently there are 35 locations in 6 states, including-4 in Texas, with more starting every day. Each one begins with sharing the story in community and then raising funds to build or renovate a house to use.
