On February 1, the club members visited the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center.  We learned that the museum has the distinction of being the first African American neighborhood museum in the State of Texas.  The museum opened in doors in a former Austin library building in 1980 and added the Cultural Center in 2005.  The museum's current collections and archives include a wide variety of 19th, 20th and 21st century artifacts and documents that encompass American, European and traditional African Arts. The museum has educational programs and includes a theater.  Please take time to visit this wonderful facility.
