Amanda Sanders, Outreach Director, from the office of the Attorney General of Texas, was our speaker. Amanda spoke to us about the various functions, initiatives and community engagement programs of the AG's office. The AG's office has a consumer protection division that protects against fraud and waste, including prosecuting disaster price gouging. They are also involved in combating the opioid crisis, including being a party to a multi-state lawsuit against drug companies and setting up educational programs. The AG's office also works on human trafficking cases and goes after on-line predators. The office has a crime victims services program and a large child support division. It also defends Texas from over reach by the federal government or local governments that run afoul of state laws. The AG's office has more than 4,000 employees in 117 offices around the state, including 750 attorneys, who handle more than 30,000 cases annually.
