District 5870 Governor Jim Henry delivered a presentation many of us agree is one of the best we have ever heard. Citing RI President Mark Maloney’s theme that “Rotary Connects the World” and his mission of “growing Rotary,” DG Jim asked us to “think Rotarian” and encouraged us not only to report what we do, but to discover why we do. And then note how the answer connects the world and grows Rotary. A second way DG Jim asked us to think, is to name the date when we became a member of a Rotary Club and the later date we actually became a Rotarian. He illustrated the meaning of this request by working in a few biographical notes and relating his own personal history. And then the major portion of his address was to ask us three questions. First, “What is your passion in Rotary?” It may be the service, The Rotary Foundation, or perhaps membership, as it is with RI President Mark. He then gave statistics and examples of each of these foci. The second question, “Why is that your passion?” For him, it is the people: people who are your friends and family, who do good things, whose good deeds make a real difference and change lives—all because “that is what Rotarians do! Again, his examples made a strong impact on the listeners. And finally the third question is obvious to those really listening and hearing the message: “What are you going to do about it?”
