On December 4th, the club held an informal meeting. First, Ernie Dean picked Tink Hill and Frank Ivy to sing a duet of Happy Birthday. The sunshine basket was passed and funds were raised for our refugee family, who is from the Congo this year and will benefit from our Pastries for Peace fundraiser at the annual holiday party. Since our speaker from Meals on Wheels was unable to make the meeting, Shirley Dean gave a report on the club's participation in the program. The club has been delivering meals (and pet food) since 2001 to clients in the northeast Austin area. The following members have participated over the years: Ernie and Shirley Dean, Sally Hood, Aziz Saleh, Lee Chesney, George Linial, Denis Cowhig, and Beth Siever. On December 19th, some of the members will be assisting with science projects for elementary school children at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. Abu Jahid just returned from Bangladesh, where he met with local Rotary clubs and learned about their volunteer projects, many of which relate to helping Rohingya refugees from Myanmar (Burma), of which there are more than 1 million who have fled from their homes into Bangladesh. Finally, President Beth discussed a possible project to provide a meal for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House, which she will discuss more with Lupe Barragan.
