Rabbi Mendy Levertov is Director of the Chabad Young Jewish Professionals of Austin, which serves as a hub for social and educational activities — serving primarily the thousands of Jewish Young Adults living and working in and around Austin. This includes Shabbat Dinners, Holiday events, personal study, and weekly classes. His Father is a Chabad Rabbi at UT and came to Austin in 1984. Rabbi Mendy decided to follow in his father’s footsteps at age 24 and has been working with the program for 6 years.
Rabbi Mendy stated that the Chabad is about “deep intellectual meditation” which is focusing on breathe study in depth every day to be closer to God. Chadbad has 4000 houses worldwide. They go out and make the world a better place. He also covered important and challenging topics such as how the younger generations and Millennials view Judism and all religions in general.
He told about the 3 sets of Books used in the Jewish Faith:
- The Talmud, 20 volumes long and the encompasses the world tradition.
- The Jewish Code of Laws
- Philosophy Books
