On December 18th, Club President-Elect Miriam Moorman, who also is the Paul Harris Society Coordinator for District 5870, spoke to us about the Paul Harris Society. She told us how after Paul Harris died in 1947, there was an outpouring of contributions in his name. In 1957, the Paul Harris Fellows program was established to recognize such contributions. In 1998/99, the Paul Harris Society was started in District 5340 and honors those donors who pledge to donate at least $1,000 to the Annual Fund, the PolioPlus Fund, or any approved global grants. The Paul Harris Society has more than 30,000 members in countries all around the world, including the United States, South Korea, India and Japan. To qualify for the Paul Harris Society, contributions must be cash (not points) and the time frame is on annual basis, which distinguishes it from qualifying for a Paul Harris Fellow, where there is no time limit to make your $1000 contributions. Like all donations to the Rotary Foundation, becoming a Paul Harris Society member will support Rotary Foundation programs and inspire fellow Rotary members to make their own donations or join the Paul Harris Society.
