On the 13th, we held a Club Assembly meeting. At the beginning, the Club celebrated Sally Hood’s birthday. She chose Ben Carssow to sing for her, and after paying the difference between those who wanted to sing and those who did not, Ben led the entire club in singing Happy Birthday to Sally!
Sally then presented our new club member badges, which the club had made to replace the old ones. Make sure you don’t lose it, if you lose it, you replace it!
President George then recapped his first six months as president of the Club. He discussed the various charities that we raised funds for, our two volunteer projects, Rise Against Hunger and Brown Santa. This month’s charity is our refugee family - the Shamsis. We have already raised over $1,000 through our Holiday party auction and the Sunshine basket donations. Let’s bring it home next week with more funds to help the Shamsis!
George also mentioned the latest club improvements, the purchase of AV equipment and a storage cabinet so that we can continue with our hybrid meetings on Zoom and in person and Sally’s presentation of the new member badges.
Coming up, using North Austin Rotary Foundation funds, the club’s scholarship committee is looking to award at least five scholarships this Spring to deserving students from our local area to help them continue with their future education. There was some additional discussion among the club members about how this process would work.
Shirley Dean also pointed out that we are still supporting Early Act First Knight at Hart Elementary School, and Miriam Moorman told us that we will be holding a teacher appreciation day in connection with EAFK ceremonies in April. Shirley also expressed her and Ernie’s appreciation for the hybrid meetings whereby they can continue to be involved in Rotary. George expressed the Club’s appreciation for all of the “Rotary Moments” prepared by the Deans over the years. Miriam mentioned that the Club will continue with its Sunshine basket donations in the Spring along with a number of in person service projects and a possible social event in January. The Club’s annual Fiesta fundraiser will take place at the beginning of June. Lots to look forward to in the coming year! And don’t forget about Club elections on December 20th!
