Carla DuBois, Marketing Manager, from Brookdale Spicewood Springs, presented an overview of her facility, an assisted living and health care residence for seniors. With a nice power-point we were able to see the layout of the apartments, the grounds, and introduction to the amenities offered. Shelly Herrera, Activities Director, then explained the vast array of activities available to residents, a major emphasis of which is community service—in schools, with Scouts, with pharmacy students, infant classes—quite intergenerational in nature. By citing several examples for each, Shelley explained that in-house activities are planned around emotional, physical, spiritual, social, and intellectual needs.  One of those in-house activities, of course, is the men’s discussion group led by our NxNE member Denis Cowhig. Shelley brought with her resident PDG Jim Robinson, one of our own members, testifying to the value of this discussion group. Ernie Dean accompanies Denis each month, but there is room and need for the involvement of a few more Rotarian men. “Uncle Denis is calling YOU!”
