Our speaker was Denis Cowhig, in his monthly series about the Rotary theme of the month! He talked about membership and how to seek good and more members! Denis started out by giving us a bit of history of Rotary, which was started by four white men over century ago. Rotary has become much more diverse since then. Denis then showed a video about growing Rotary and reviewed some of the proven methods used to gain new members and gave examples from other clubs.
A Club in NJ has four types of members: standard, family memberships - reduced dues for 2nd member; corporate - specific number of members and pay corporate dues; friendship membership - participate in activities but may not meet membership meeting attendance requirements.
The Philadelphia club started a Happy Hour club as a membership option, which meets once a month and does a once-a-month service project during the day.
A Minnesota club gave the following tips -- create a list of all the great things about your club; keep list of potential members; know your club’s strengths; make membership a priority, celebrate when you get new members; be persistent; be vibrant (have fun!).
Denis is proud about the diversity of our club -we have members from different countries, faiths and backgrounds. One of our greatest strengths.
He told us we need to make our club and Rotary attractive to potential long-term Rotarians. Gave a list of best practices for that. Engage and Retain!!
