DGN Todd Smith presented us a most informative program about Rotary Fellowships and Action Groups, organizations related to but separate from, Rotary International. They both offer opportunities in addition to club membership to provide fellowship with like-minded folks beyond the club level and they are global in focus. Fellowships bring together individuals who share a common interest, vocation, hobby or recreational activity for networking and fellowship regardless of geography. The Yachting Fellowship, founded in 1947, is the longest existing fellowship to date. Each fellowship is affiliated with Rotary International, but independent in administration, activities and events. There are over 100 different fellowships with over 50,000 members across 150 countries. An average of just under 500 members are in each fellowship and about 2/3 of them are hybrid groups. The networking and leadership opportunities have proven to be a positive membership attraction and retention tool. Action Groups are independent, international, Rotary-affiliated groups, required to be associated with a Rotary area of focus.They carry out impactful service because members have a particular area of expertise and can assist clubs and districts in planning projects. They are a wonderful opportunity which allow a Rotarian to use professional skills to advise others on meaningful activities outside the local clubs. In 2022 these Action Groups supported 670 service projects and helped raise $853,000 for humanitarian projects. There are 27 active Action Groups with 36,030 members across 150 countries. The average number of members in a group is 928, with 43 countries represented in each Group.
